Check Your Kit Instructions
Some samples require centrifuging. Bring your kit instructions to your phlebotomy appointment and share them with your phlebotomist.

1. Draw Your Blood

  • Use the SST yellow-top vial provided.

  • Minimum 5 ml per vial.

  • Invert the vial 8–10 times to mix the contents. Only do this process if your instructions advise you to.

If a centrifuge is not available:

  • Send the sample immediately. Must reach the lab within 24 hours, for Cyrex tests only.  All other bloods please follow your test kit instructions.

If a centrifuge is available:

  • Let the SST vial stand 20 minutes before centrifuging.

  • Centrifuge to separate serum:

    • Swing-arm: 10 min at 3000 rpm

    • Fixed-angle rotor: 15 min at 3500 rpm

    • Aim for ~2000 × g

  • Transfer minimum 2 ml of serum to the aliquot tube.

  • Ensure all relevant info is on the tube.

Labelling Your Sample

  • Apply the provided label and mark the collection date.

  • If no label, write full name, date of birth, and collection date.

  • Ensure the information matches the requisition form.
