Preparing and Returning Your Sample (UK)
Correct packaging and labelling are essential to ensure your specimen is transported safely and processed without delay. Please follow the steps below when returning your sample to the laboratory.
Returning your sample safely
To return your sample correctly:

Ensure all specimen tubes and paperwork are clearly labelled with the patient’s:

Full name
-
Date of birth
-
Collection date
-

Place the sample container into the provided biohazard or ziplock bag with absorbent material

Pack the sample securely into the original kit box (or another suitable cardboard box if needed)

Attach the DHL return label flat to the outside of the DHL shipping bag
-
Place the boxed sample inside the DHL bag and seal it securely
Recommended shipping window
To support sample stability and timely processing, we recommend shipping samples Monday to Thursday, avoiding Fridays and the day before UK Bank Holidays where possible.
Ensuring correct transport labelling
Please ensure all required markings remain clearly visible during transit, including:

Biological Substance Category B wording

Medical Express and DHL Express labelling
Return Checklist (UK)
Before handing your sample to DHL, please confirm:
✅ Sample labelled correctly
✅ Sample sealed in the correct inner bag with absorbent material
✅ Sample packed securely inside a protective box
✅ DHL return label attached flat and visible on the outside
✅ Shipment being returned Monday–Thursday where possible
✅ UN3373 and Medical Express markings remain unobstructed
